The course aimed to connect traditional techniques and methods of landscape design with various conceptual approaches to design, encouraging a shift away from rigid, analytical frameworks. Instead, it placed a strong emphasis on a more fluid, intuitive, and creative process of design, where personal expression and innovation were central. Students were encouraged to explore design not just as a technical exercise but as a dynamic process that blends emotion, imagination, and context. Throughout the semester, there was a significant focus on fostering an open, collaborative environment where diverse viewpoints and ideas could be discussed, debated, and challenged. This approach allowed for the exploration of new, unconventional design solutions, ultimately nurturing a more holistic and personal approach to landscape architecture.

The design philosophy behind this studio emphasizes how design evolves as a manifestation of nature's principles, with each natural form embodying unique geometries, patterns, and textures. By studying these phenomena, a "Design Language" is developed. In parallel, the foundation studio trains students in core skills of architectural historical and theoretical inquiry, focusing on the analysis of built environments and archival material. Students learn to observe, document, and analyze sites to understand architectural transformations, expanding their understanding of architectural history and exploring how the built environment is produced, used, remembered, represented, and transformed.

This studio explores designing responsive urban riverfronts that harmonize with natural systems, aiming to improve the relationship between people and their environment. With rapid urbanization altering traditional waterfronts, the studio addresses how to sustain natural ecologies while accommodating modern urban living. Students will engage in research, a longitudinal study of river systems, strategic design, and individual master-plan proposals, incorporating both group and individual work, including renderings and modeling to explore solutions for adaptive, sustainable riverfront development.
